A Few Notes about PointlessWines.com Hi folks, PointlessWines.com is an independent wine review site that features many smaller, boutique wineries that you may not have heard of before. The purpose is to introduce you to great wines that you won't find in your local wine shops, and to show you where you can buy them online. A bit about me .... I was born and raised in Berkeley, CA, and graduated from U.C Davis. I began collecting wine seriously in 1978, and have been enthusiastically exploring the world of wine ever since. But I have been dismayed to see some of the trends that have developed in California over the last couple of decades--trends toward bigger and more massive wines that dominate or obliterate food, and away from the more elegant and nuanced wines that are easier to pair with food. Yet there are still great, balanced, food-friendly wines being made in California. This site highlights truly great wine values and where to buy them online. This way, you don't have to rely on the misleading point scores plastered all over the shelves of your local wine retailers. We taste dozens of wines for every wine we select for posting on this site. These are the cream of the crop--truly outstanding wines for the price. They are wines we want our friends to know about. How does this site make money? That's easy--it doesn't. Right now I am funding this site myself, and there is no income. None of the wineries featured here have paid for the placement, and we don't get commissions from sales. Eventually the site will begin to carry advertising, and I will add a store with wine-related products to help subsidize the cost of operation.
